In a bit of unsurprising news, ABC has announced renewals for its ‘Bachelor’ franchise, including season 16 of The Bachelor and season 7 of The Bachelorette, which join a previously announced season 2 of Bachelor Pad, according to Entertainment Weekly.
The Bachelor has had a bumpy road on the network, with sagging ratings and a poor track record at relationship success, but the past several seasons have been quite strong in terms of both word of mouth and ratings. The finale of season 15, which features Brad Womack in his second go around, airs tonight, as Womack must decide between executive assistant Chantal and event planner Emily. Season 16 will air in early 2012.
The Bachelorette will begin its 7th season on May 23rd. There’s no word on who will be looking for love (I’d say whoever Brad doesn’t choose tonight), but the show has had a fairly decent record of producing relationships, most notably with season 1’s Trista and season 6’s Ali.
If you can’t get enough pretty people looking for love, season 2 of Bachelor Pad premieres in late summer. In case you’re unfamiliar with the show, Bachelor Pad takes contestants from The Bachelor and The Bachelorette, throws them in a house together, and pits them against one another in physical challenges. Last season was won by Natalie (season 13) and David (season 5), with Tenley (season 14) and Kiptyn (season 5) coming just short of the $250,000 prize.
Who do you think should be the new Bachelor? The next Bachelorette? Are you planning on watching The Bachelorette or Bachelor Pad? Do you think Brad will choose Emily or Chantal?
