Castle Preview: 10 Facts You Need to Know About The 100th Episode

131487_4308_pre-630x433One hundred episodes.

There are not many shows that manage to accomplish this major achievement these days. When it started in 2009, Castle seemed like just another crime procedural and it did have a slow start. No one could have predicted how big a fanbase this show was going to have and how invested the fans are about these characters. I jumped on board in the summer between seasons 2 and 3 and have been a hardcore fan since then.

However, it is no secret to you guys that these last couple of seasons haven’t been all that great for me and I’ve been very vocal about it, especially when it came to Castle and Beckett’s relationship. Now, having seen the 100th episode a couple of hours ago, I can definitely say that all (well, almost) I had been complaining about has been delivered in “The Lives of Others”. I admit I was a little bit apprehensive about this episode, mostly because, well, it is the 100th episode and it’s a huge deal, for starters. But also because I wasn’t entirely sure how this Rear Window kind of plot was going to play out and, really, why were they even going in that direction?

But it was just so good, guys. Seriously. I don’t have one single complaint about this episode. I was talking to my friend and fellow Castle reviewer, Kate Jennings, from Examiner.com and she said something that pretty much sums up “The Lives of Others” for me: “It’s like everything I’ve wanted the entire series in 40 minutes”. And it really is. Everything I love about this show and everything I wanted to see wrapped up in one brilliant episode with a nice red bow on top of it. It is easily the best episode of season 5 and – dare I say it – maybe the best one of the series.

Without going into details – because I obviously can’t give out any major spoilers – the 100th episode finds Castle stuck in a wheelchair with a broken kneecap after showing off for Beckett during a ski trip. He is being a big baby about it, whining about being bored and how much it all sucks and I can’t say I blame him. I have dislocated my kneecap once and it’s very painful and you can’t walk and it just all around sucks to be stuck in bed for weeks.

So he is basically stuck at home and Kate is staying with him, which is just so entirely domestic and adorable that caskett fans around the world will be a puddle of feels by the end of this episode. Then he witnesses a murder at the apartment across the street and that gets the ball rolling. I can’t say much more than that, but I can answer a few of your questions, so I selected ten facts that you need to know about the 100th episode.

@Copop83: Will we get a kiss?

Well, it is the poor guy’s birthday and he’s got a broken leg. Kate wants him to feel better. You do the math.

@Litalainie: do we get a sense of what a big deal it is that Beckett is staying with Castle to look after him?

I am not really sure if it’s a big deal for them, but what we get from it is Castle and Beckett being a couple and taking care of each other and planning dinners and trips and being affectionate with each other, you know? Everything we didn’t get the entire season on the Caskett front, we get in this episode. And let me tell you, it’s amazing!

@tammygamble: Would you say it’s some of the best Castle/Beckett interaction since they got together?

Absolutely. I’d say it’s the very best.

@_MissKM_ : What was different about the episode than what you were expecting?

I think I liked it a lot more than I was expecting. To be completely honest, I wasn’t really sure about what to expect and I didn’t want to hope too much and then get disappointed when it didn’t live up to my expectations. But it was really, really great. It had just this really celebratory vibe throughout the episode, being Castle’s birthday and all. What really stood out for me was how at ease both Castle and Beckett are about their relationship and where they stand and they’re not afraid to show it. They are very affectionate with each other, especially Beckett.

@elmerspears: Does anyone else witness any of this Casketty goodness? if so who?

Yes. Martha, Alexis, the boys. Like I said, they’re very affectionate with each other at the loft.

@MiaStanatic: Are there any surprises in the episode?

There is one hell of a surprise, but we have been very strictly instructed to not reveal what it is.

@CourtOsen: Did Ryan reveal his pregnancy news to anyone or is that still on the DL?

There is no mention of that, but I’m assuming Ryan and Jenny will probably want to wait until the second trimester, maybe?

@tanitagreen7: Is Castle in wheelchair/crutches the whole episode?

He is, the poor thing. But it serves as great comic relief.

@fafaela: what was the best part of the episode?

I can’t reveal that. It’s so good, though. You guys are going to love it.

@serenakatic18: in a scale from 1 to Always, how would you rate the 100th episode?

Beyond Always. It’s fighting for the best episode ever position.

Bottom line is, guys, this was an amazing episode with everything that I love about this show. Episodes like this is why I watch Castle every Monday and have been coming back for more for the past three years. I really hope there is more where this one came from. I guess it’s safe to say that you Castle fans have every right to be super excited about this one because it really is all that and more.

It was a great way to celebrate one hundred episodes. Here’s to a hundred more. Cheers!
