I see you driving ’round town with the girl I love and I’m like…
You have a new job!
Yes, the man behind the song that gave Gwyneth Paltrow the chance to perform at the Grammys has booked a pretty big gig with NBC’s new talent competition The Voice. According to Entertainment Weekly, Cee Lo Green and Maroon 5 frontman Adam Levine have both signed up to appear as judges on the show, joining former VJ and current talk show host Carson Daly who will host the series. Rumored to be joining them is troubled pop star Christina Aguilera, but the blonde starlet has yet to formally sign on.
The aim of the show is said to be a younger, fresher take on the TV competition show and if this is the line-up, it would have accomplished its goal. Green currently has the #2 song in the nation, while Levine and Aguilera have enough gold and platinum plaques from their combined 21 years of professional experience to line every inch of wall space on the gaudiest of mansions. These are three people with personality, success, and an ear for music, so combine all of that with the familiarity factor and The Voice has made good first moves at a bid for late-spring success.
The Voice has an interesting concept where the judges have their backs turned during auditions/performances, picking people to go through to successive rounds based strictly on vocal talent. Once the audition rounds are over, the judges will coach the contestants, so it’s less like Idol and more like Fox’s upcoming X Factor, which is slated to premiere this fall. The Voice is scheduled to premiere Tuesday April 26th at 9:00 for a two hour premiere and will move to its regular time period on May 10th at 8:00.
What do you think about The Voice’s chances to succeed? Will you watch the show? Do you think Levine, Green, and Aguilera will have the chemistry to make this an enjoyable show?
