On this week’s season premiere of Chuck, we were introduced to a new employee of the Buy More, Greta, played by Olivia Munn. As we reported this summer, Greta is a CIA/NSA agent tasked with maintaining the government outpost the Burbank Buy More store has become. Further, that position will be filled by a new agent (and therefore, a new actor) each week. Olivia Munn was the first (though the show never mentioned the name Greta), and it has been revealed that she will be followed by Isaiah Mustafa (the Old Spice guy) and WWE/Dancing With the Stars star Stacy Keibler. Now comes word that the next Greta will be an actress beloved by sci-fi nerds everywhere: Summer Glau.
Glau has long ago earned her geek cred by starring in shows like Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles and Firefly. More importantly, and assuredly a not incidental reason she was cast, Glau will star in NBC’s mid-season drama The Cape. In fact, unless Chuck gets a back nine pickup (please, please, pretty please!!!), it is likely The Cape will take over Chuck‘s time-slot. In The Cape, Glau will play Orwell, a blogger who helps a framed cop who has been left for dead, take vengeance on the man who orchestrated his downfall, by assuming the identity of his son’s favorite superhero. Hopefully, Chuck will be picked up for another nine episodes, and The Cape will replace Chase (which was not very good in my humble opinion) at 10:00 on Monday nights, giving NBC a solid “nerd block” on Mondays. Hey, maybe I can get a job as an NBC programmer; I hear a position is opening up.
Glau will make her appearance in Chuck‘s eighth episode.
Chuck airs Monday nights at 8:00pm ET/PT on NBC.
