CW News: Vampire Diaires’ New Anchor and LUX’s Future Sealed?

Well, The CW has some pretty interesting news this Saturday morning concerning The Vampire Diaries and Life Unexpected.

First up, the good news. Mystic Falls is finally getting a replacement news anchor after initial top anchor, Logan Fell, bit the dust twice last season. The True Blood fansite The Vault reports that Dawn Olivieri, last seen as Alcide’s sister Janice in this past season of True Blood, has secured a recurring gig on The Vampire Diaries as Andie Star, the new local newscaster. The length of the role is undetermined at the moment, but Olivieri details that she will “spicing things up” on the show. Oh, boy. We wonder if Damon will get a hold of her or if he will still be too busy fawning over Elena. Time will tell.

Olivieri is in Atlanta right now, filming her first episode.

Now for the bad news…

TV Shows On DVD reports the release of Life Unexpected: The Complete Series, which speaks volumes of the show’s future on The CW. Initially, the show was slated for a Complete First Season release in January, but the set was pulled from the Warner Bros. release schedule in place for the complete series route, which will include both seasons and will be released on April 5th.

After The CW failed to pick up the back nine order for LUX, the rumor mills and gossip has put the show on life support. Throw in the recent news of LUX star Kristoffer Polaha signing a deal with CBS Studios and now a DVD release titled as “The Complete Series,” it’s starting to look as if The CW is about to call a time of death for the show.

Here’s a snippet from TV Shows on DVD’s details and specs on the set:

Now Warner has officially announced Life Unexpected – The Complete Series, scheduling it to be available onApril 5th. The 6-DVD package will include every episode from both seasons, plus 2 Featurettes, “Life in Portland: The Making of Life Unexpected“, “Lux, Cate, Baze, Ryan & Math: The Casting of Life Unexpected“, Deleted Scenes and a Gag Reel. Video is anamorphic widescreen, audio is English Dolby Surround 5.1, and there are English subtitles as well. The running time is listed at 1118 minutes, and the cost is $59.98 SRP.
