The Dancing with the Stars ballroom turns opera during Classical Week as the contestants perform their dances to classical music. Guests include classical musical superstar Joshua Bell, soprano prodigy Jackie Evancho and world renowned Italian Tenor Vittorio Grigolo. Recently booted pro dancers Tristan MacManus and Karina Smirnoff return for a pro dance together.
The stars and pros will dance to famous pieces of classical music and finish off the evening with the always popular ‘Team Dances.’Here’s who’s dancing what:
Katherine Jenkins & Mark Ballas: Rumba
Donald Driver & Peta Murgatroyd: Viennese Waltz
William Levy & Cheryl Burke: Viennese Waltz
Roshon Fegan & Chelsie Hightower: Argentine Tango
Maria Menounos & Derek Hough: Paso Doble
Jaleel White & Kym Johnson: Viennese Waltz
Melissa Gilbert & Maks Chmerkovskiy: Argentine Tango
The 7 remaining contestants will split into two teams with their partners and battle each other later Monday night. On Team Paso are: Melissa, William and Donald. They battle Team Tango: Katherine, Maria, Roshon and Jaleel. All things not being equal, one team has 3 couples and the other has 4. Will Team Tango have an advantage with an extra pair? Or does less people mean less chance of mishap?
The bigger question of the week is, will Maks be able to dance? Maks injured his foot and has been unable to dance since last week. Brother Val has stepped in for him to rehearse with Melissa. Even though Maks has rested all week, it’s not 100% certain he can dance without risking further injury. Read Maks’Dancing with the Stars blog for the scoop. As for front runner Katherine, this will certainly be her week to shine. Who else but opera star in her own right Katherine can feel the classical music and express herself as well she probably can? Don’t be surprised if she waltzes off with three 10s.
Fortunately we can kiss the Dance Duel goodbye this week. The final duel will be held on Tuesday’s Dancing with the Stars Result Show and we won’t be bothered with this viewer loathed competition for the rest of the season. The bottom two couples will have to perform the Rumba simultaneously to the same song, and the judges will decide who to save.
Also on Tuesday night ousted contestant Gavin DeGraw returns to perform his music for us, accompanied by pro dancers Louis Van Amstel and Karina. Dancing with the Stars week 7 kicks off Monday, April 30 at 8 p.m. on ABC.
