Daytime Emmys 2017: Who Should Win Best Younger Actor

Daytime Emmys

This year’s Daytime Emmy Awards are a week away, and we’ve got our takes on the frontrunners in the Daytime Drama categories. This past week the Television Academy released the storyline clips submitted for this year’s Daytime Emmy’s. Before the winners are announced, we’ve got our take on who should take home the trophies. The Bold and the Beautiful’s Anthony Turpel and Pierson Fode, Days of Our Lives‘s James Lastovic, and General Hospital‘s Bryan Craig and Tequan Richmond are nominated in the Younger Actor Category. We have our pick for the frontrunner, as well as who comes up a very close second should the Academy not share our opinion.

This race is particularly tight and difficult to predict this year. The young men in this category absolutely knocked their performances out of the park. Everyone was given very strong material, to the point that you could see the emotional drain each actor felt during their performances. The race was close, but once again I’m going to have to give it to Bryan Craig for his portrayal of Morgan Corinthos. You could tell he did a tremendous amount of research and had fantastic guidance as to the internal struggles of someone with Bipolar Disorder. In his final year in the role, Craig was enthralling playing the pain of the depression and mania of this disorder. He was also amazing playing off of his on-screen parents, played by Maurice Benard and Laura Wright. I’m predicting a follow-up win.

Should Craig not win the award, which would be very surprising, I’d have to go with either James Lastovic or Pierson Fode. Both of their performances were captivating not because of the events going on around them, but because of the powerful inner strength you could see in their performances. Restraint in an actor’s performances is just as commanding as outrage, anger, or exuberance.

Who do you think should win for Best Younger Actor?
