Five Things You Didn’t Know about Anika Noni Rose

Actress Anika Noni Rose is coming back to the theater in the production Carmen Jones and for many people it’s a treat that they’ve likely been wanting to see for a while. The popular, award-winning actress has managed to capture a lot of people’s hearts with her genuine acting talent and heavenly, kind of sassy voice that stirs the emotions and gets a person in the mood to listen and possibly join in. There’s no word just yet when it will be out but likely many fans will want to know just when they can expect to see her again.

It’s always fun to see your favorite actor return to what they do best.

5. In Dreamgirls she had to wear six-inch heels.

This has to do with the fact that she doesn’t really have height on her size. Anika only stands 5’2″ so she’s quite a bit shorter than a lot of other folks. In order to be in the same picture with Beyonce and Jennifer Hudson she had to wear heels that would elevate her just enough so that people wouldn’t miss her when she stood next to the two women.

4. She was once set to play Dorothy Gale in a revamped version of the The Wiz.

This was set to happen back in the 1990’s, but it never came to be. People have loved this version of the old tale and have managed to make it into something that’s at least somewhat as popular as the original story. The role of Dorothy Gale has been played by a lot of people throughout the years but her voice could have possibly lent a lot to the character through song and through her acting.

3. She was the lead voice of Tiana in The Princess and the Frog.

So this really makes her the first black Disney princess, which is nothing to sneeze at since it marked the beginning of real diversity in Disney, though it has yet to be seen as far-reaching just yet. Disney is still stubbornly clinging to stereotypes, but at least it’s known now that there are different princesses that aren’t all white and don’t all come from a similar background. Tiana proved that you can be a princess no matter how humble your beginning is.

2. She had a part on the Broadway version of Footloose.

Anika definitely seems to be attracted to big numbers and they seem to want her. This time however she was brought in to replace another actor, which still means that she was deemed to be the person that was needed for the few months that she accepted the role on Broadway. Even being a substitute means that people want you around, especially when they see what she can do.

1. She’s won a good number of awards.

Her acting isn’t for nothing since she’s been awarded for it on numerous occasions. Her talents haven’t gone unnoticed or unappreciated throughout her career, which is awesome to see.

Hard work and a desire to shine really does work for one’s career.
