Five Things You Didn’t Know about Diana DeGarmo

Some folks don’t like to come in second but will gladly accept it as a challenge to do better the next time. Diana DeGarmo is one such individual who’s been in some aspect of show business since she was very young and has grown up trying to be the best she can possibly be. To date she’s accomplished quite a bit and performed in areas that not everyone that wants to has ever achieved. Plus she’s still very active and shows no signs of slowing down in the near future, so it’s very easy to see that she’ll be around for a while yet.

Being second isn’t a bad thing, it just increases the desire to be first.

5. She’s an Aretha Franklin fan.

She might not be a mega fan as she’s been known to listen to other artists and model herself after them a little more often but Franklin’s song Chain of Fools has been said to be her favorite song to sing. It could be the rhythm, the harmony, or just something else about it that entices her more than anything else. A lot of people have that favorite song that they’ll sing more than any other.

4. She was very active in show business as a child.

Diana was active in everything from beauty pageants to musical productions and commercials. She even managed to get on Cartoon Network at one point so you know she was working her hardest to get noticed. That kind of spirit is admirable since it means that she’s not willing to just sit down and let other people pass her by on the way to fame. She wants to be out there and is willing to go just about anywhere to do her thing.

3. She was on American Idol.

While she never won the whole thing, she only lost out by about two percent or less, she was still able to become a fan favorite since people loved listening to her voice and were confident that she could be the next big star. She went on tour with the top 10 however and, like a few others, proved that you didn’t have to win the entire thing to get a career up and running.

2. She’s starred as Penny Pingleton in the Broadway version of Hairspray.

The pigtail-wearing, fireball-sucking best friend of Tracey Turnblad has been one fans’ favorites for a long time now, ever since Ricky Lake decided to go on the big screen for a turn at fame. There have been a few different women that have taken the role of Penny and have done a fairly good job, but despite being a secondary character Penny has still managed to shine more than a little for the audience.

1. She’s not a fan of looking backward.

Such a belief could be mirrored by a lot of people. Diana believes that moving forward is key in life and that dwelling on the past is never a favorable thing. It’s harder to push forward and make the kind of life you want, but the rewards are usually worth it.

That’s a great philosophy to have and to keep.
