Five Things You Didn’t Know About Kai Cole

Kai Cole is an American producer, actress an architect who was born in New York City. She was interested in becoming an actress from a young age but decided to opt for a career in production when she reached adulthood, although she has had some small parts in her own movies. She is best-known for producing movies including ‘Professor Marston & the Wonder Woman’, ‘In Your Eyes’, and ‘Much Ado About Nothing’. She predominantly stayed out of the limelight, despite working in the film industry for many years, until she married a famous producer. Here are five more things you might not know about Kai Cole.

1. She Was Married to Joss Whedon

It was her marriage to Joss Whedon in 1995 that pushed Kai Cole into the limelight. Whedon is an American director, producer, screenwriter, composer and comic book writer. He is best-known as the creator of series including ‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’, ‘Dollhouse’, ‘Firefly’, ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’, and ‘Angel’. He also co-wrote ‘Toy Story’ and wrote and directed ‘The Avengers’ and ‘Avenger: Age of Ultron’. Whedon and Cole’s marriage ran into difficulties and separated in 2012 before finalizing their divorce in 2016. Cole and Whedon have two children together. Their daughter is called Squire and their son is called Arden. Both children have taken their mother’s surname.

2. She Famously Accused Her Ex-Husband of Affairs

The divorce of Whedon and Cole was acrimonious and Kai Cole became well-known for the comments she made about her ex-husband following the divorce. She famously accused him of repeatedly having affairs and also labeled him a hypocrite for preaching about feminism to others.

3. She Had an Acting Roles in Two of the Movies She Produced

Cole achieved her childhood ambition of becoming an actress by giving herself small roles in ‘Much Ado About Nothing’ and also ‘In Your Eyes’. Much Ado About Nothing’ was released in 2012 and Cole produced this in collaboration with her husband. This was a black and white romantic comedy film that was adapted from the play by William Shakespeare. It was directed by Joss Whedon. ‘In Your Eyes’ is a romance film written by Joss Whedon and produced by Kai Cole and Michael Roiff that was released in 2014 and was directed by Brin Hill.

4. She is the Co-Founder of ‘Bellwether Pictures’

Kai Cole founded Bellwether Pictures with her then husband Joss Whedon. The company is based in Los Angeles and was founded in 2011. The purpose of the company was to help films with a micro-budget to bypass the usual studio structure and take them to the audience directly. To date, the only films released by this film production company are ‘Much Ado About Nothing’ and ‘In Your Eyes’; both of which were produced by Kai Cole.

5. She Used Her Own Home as a Filming Location

When ‘Much Ado About Nothing’ was filmed, Cole decided to use her own home as the main shooting location. She was particularly proud of her own as she had lovingly designed the interior herself.
