Get Your First Look at KJ Apa as Riverdales “Archie” During CW Pilot Shoot

Riverdale's Archie

For those of you who have been anticipating Archie comics coming to television, this should make you happy.  The very first image of the star of “Riverdale” playing Archie has come to life.  In fact, KJ Apa has an incredible likeness to artist Fiona Staples’ take on the famous red-haired comic character.  The photo which was originally published on Just Jared Jr., caught the actor on a break Saturday from filming the CW drama pilot.

Written by Archie Comics CCO Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa and produced by Greg Berlanti (“Arrow,” “The Flash”), Riverdale offers a “subversive” take on the world of Archie Comics. Apa is joined in the pilot by Camilia Mendes as Veronica Lodge, Lili Reinhart as Betty Cooper, Cole Sprouse as Jughead, Ross Butler as Reggie Mantle, Casey Cott as Kevin Keller, Daniel Yang as Dilton Doiley, Cody Kearsley as Moose Mason, Ashleigh Murray as Josie, Madelaine Petsch as Cheryl Blossom, Marisol Nichols as Mrs. Lodge, Mädchen Amick as Alice Cooper, and Luke Perry as Fred Andrews.

In case you need some more familiarity on KJ Apa, there’s really not too much to know.  He’s a relative newcomer to the TV scene.  He did however, have a role as Kane Jenkins in the show “Shortland Street.”  He also just filmed a movie called “A Dog’s Purpose.”   The only other thing I know about KJ is that he was spotted with Cole Sprause having lunch once.  Does that do anything for any of you out there?

In any event, it’ll be interesting to see how the CW adapts the comic into the show “Riverdale.”  Given their recent success with the comic universe you’d think it should be successful but I don’t know.  There’s no super powers going on here.  Do I really care about Veronica on the silver screen?  I think I might rather just see it in print.  Then again, Luke Perry is going to be on this show so come on.  Here’s a tweet about the photos.
