Important Life Lessons “Grey’s Anatomy Teaches Us

“Grey’s Anatomy” is wonderful for teaching us some very important life lessons. The group of young doctors who are just beginning their careers endure some intense struggles. The name sake of the hospital, Meridith Grey is a main focus on the series as she is the daughter of a famous surgeon who has a tough time maintaining her relationships with her colleagues. There are so many things viewers could glean from the show, that we’ve chosen the top five life lessons.

1. We must learn by our own mistakes

It would be nice if we could simply observe others and learn from their errors, but life doesn’t work that way. Each of us has to make our own errors and learn from them because it is a part of learning and growing. Sometimes, we must try and fail and this is a part of the growing process. If you have never made a mistake then you probably haven’t tried to do many things in your life. We learn from the mistakes that we made, and hopefully, discover better alternatives to the choices that we’ve made.

2. People don’t like change

Change can be frightening because it represents a departure from what we know and what is familiar to us. It’s something that some people will go to great lengths to avoid, but it is the one constant in life that we cannot prevent. It means that we must adapt to the new that comes into our lives or become left behind. There is often pain involved within the transitions that we must make, but it is also a chance for us to grow as human beings if we can see the positive associations.

3. Sometimes you have to go out on a limb in faith

Things can happen very quickly in life and situations arise where you must make a leap of faith. A path may open up before you and you only have a small window of time to make the choice whether or not to decide which way you will go. There are times when we must progress forward, even if we’re not certain where the path will lead. In many instances, new relationships represent this type of challenge.

4. Our personal boundaries aren’t always good for us

This is particularly true when we’ve established boundaries for the sake of keeping other people on the outside. Distancing ourselves emotionally and physically may help in keeping us safe from the messiness that goes along with having real relationships with people, but at some point, someone special will crash through the lines that we’ve drawn in the sand. It’s good to take the chance every now and then and let down the walls. Those that have taken years to build are the hardest to tear down.

5. We are shaped by our individual histories

It doesn’t matter who you are or where you came from, your history has helped to make you who you are. Our past experiences influence our beliefs whether they are solid or faulty. There are times that we choose to fall back on the things that we learned from our past, and other times when we know that it is timem to abandon outworn beliefs and move forward with our lives.
