Mark Hamill Wants You To Avoid “The Last Jedi” Marketing

Disney has set a release date of December 15, 2017 for the new film in the “Star Wars” franchise “The Last Jedi.” The highly anticipated film is expected to draw huge numbers of viewers. It’s not likely that they will disclose much information about the movie, but Mark Hamill who plays [easyazon_link identifier=”B010B93PEW” locale=”US” tag=”tvovermind00a-20″]Luke Skywalker[/easyazon_link] warns that fans of the franchise should avoid as much of the torrent of marketing that is coming their way. He goes on to say that this is the way it works with advertising and marketing but until the film is released, everything related to the film should be avoided.

The previous trailer

The trailer for “[easyazon_link identifier=”B019EG1TC8″ locale=”US” tag=”tvovermind00a-20″]The Force Awakens[/easyazon_link]” really didn’t show fans that much, at least not enough to be a spoiler. It was more of a teaser that lasted a brief minute and thirty eight seconds. it gave us enough of a taste of what was to come to stir excitement and anticipation without ruining the actual viewing experience. When it comes down to it, don’t we all really just want to be surprised at the theater? This experience can be compared to finding out what your Christmas presents are before opening them. It dulls the thrill and none of us really want that to happen. Spoilers for the 2014 film were kept at a minimum and truly, no expense was spared when it came to keeping the surprise, just that…a surprise.

What they did allow

We were given a few important details including who was coming back. The execs revealed that Harrison Ford would be back as Han, along with Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Peter Mayhew, Anthony Daniels and Kenny Baker in their former respective roles. The big question that was being asked was “where’s Luke?” We didn’t know what to expect because there were no spoilers to ruin the experience. What we’ve taken away from “The Force Awakens” was a cameo from Hamill that sets us up for the next installment.

Introduction of pivotal new characters

We were introduced to the new characters who would play a vital role in the unfolding story. We met Rey, Poe, Finn and the new droid BB-8. The backstories for the characters was as detailed as they needed to be to move the film forward, but there is likely more to be revealed, in the tradition of the franchise. Kylo Ren, grandson of Darth Vader is the villain who is working on the perfection of his skills, and we weren’t privy to the fact that his dark master, Snoke would appear in the film.

“The Last Jedi” teaser trailer

A poster and a teaser trailer have been released by Disney so far. They went the extra mile and gave us a behind the scenes look in July, released at Comic Con in San Diego. The film is also being promoted in a widespread media sweep of photo sets, websites, magazines and with merchandise. There will be more coming as December nears.

We’re expecting another trailer to be released in later Fall, perhaps in October, that will give us a lot more information. This is why Hamill is urging fans to avoid all of the little tidbits that are certain to be coming their way. We already know from the setup that Luke will train Rey in the ways of the force. Luke is not the last Jedi, but it is becoming apparent that it is Rey, unless we’re mistaken. We’ll see a few new faces in the next installment including Laura Dern and Benicio Del Toro, among others.
