No matter how you feel about the ending of Lost, there’s no denying that the series was one of the most important shows to air over the course of the past decade. It not only featured countless complex, layered characters and made sci-fi more acceptable to a general audience, but it also changed the way network television series told stories, with more shows embracing serialized storytelling instead of simply functioning as procedural. However, while Lost is incredibly memorable for its characters and the actions that they took, people also remember the series for the words these characters said. Here are the most memorable of Lost quotes of all-time.
“Two players, two sides. One is dark, one is light.” – Locke, “Pilot”
“See ya in another life, brother.” — Desmond
“Son of a…[you know]” — Sawyer
“WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAALT!” — Michael
“Course if I was one of them — these people that you seem to think are your enemies — what would I do? Well, there’d be no balloon. So I’d draw a map to a real secluded place, like a cave or some underbrush, good place for a trap. An ambush. And when your friends got there, a bunch of my people would be waiting for ‘em. Then they’d use them to trade for me…I guess it’s a good thing I’m not one of them huh? You g1uys got any milk?” – Ben/Henry Gale, “The Whole Truth”
“I was never meant to do anything. Every single second of my pathetic little life is as useless as that button! You think it’s important? You think it’s necessary? It’s nothing. It’s nothing. It’s meaningless. And who are you to tell me that it’s not?” — Locke, “?”
Desmond: I won’t call… for eight years. December 24, 2004. Christmas Eve. I promise. Please, Pen.
Penny: If I give you the number, will you leave?
Desmond: Aye. – “The Constant”
Desmond: Penny… Penny, you answered. You answered, Penny.
Penny: Des, where are you?
Desmond: I’m… I’m on a boat. Um… I’ve been on an island, and – – Oh, my god, Penny. Is that really you?
Penny: Yeah! Yes, it’s me!
Desmond: You believe me? You still care about me?
Penny: Des, I’ve been looking for you for the past three years. I know about the island. I’ve been researching and then when I spoke to your friend Charlie, that’s when I knew you were still alive. That’s when I knew I wasn’t crazy. Des, are you still there?
Desmond: Yes, yes, I’m here! I’m still here, can you hear me?
Penny: Yeah, yeah, that’s better.
Desmond: I love you, Penny. I’ve always loved you. I’m so sorry. I love you!
Penny: I love you too.
Desmond: I don’t know where I am, but…
Penny: I’ll find you, Des.
Desmond: I promise.
Penny: No matter what…
Desmond: I’ll come back to you.
Penny: I won’t give up.
Desmond and Penny (together): I promise. I love you. – “The Constant”
Jack: I don’t believe in destiny.
Locke: Yes, you do. You just don’t know it yet. – “Exodus”
Ben: You’ve been here 80 days, John; I’ve been here my entire life! So how is it that you think you know this island better than I do?
Locke: Because you’re in the wheelchair, and I’m not. – “The Man from Tallahassee”
“We have to go back, Kate. We have to go back!” — Jack, “Through the Looking Glass”
“I’ve looked into the eye of this island, and what I saw was beautiful.” —Â Locke, “White Rabbit”
Sawyer: Why you doing this, Juliet?
Juliet: I… If I never meet you, then I never have to lose you. – “The Incident”
“You’re not John Locke, you disrespect his memory by wearing his face, but you are nothing like him. It turns out he was right about just about everything. I just wish I could have told him that when he was still alive.” – Jack, “The End”
“This is not your island. This is our island. And the only reason you’re living on it is because we let you live on it.” — Tom, “The Hunting Party”
Locke: You just killed everyone on that boat.
Ben:Â So? – “There’s No Place Like Home”
“Dude, you’ve got some Artz on you.” – Hurley, “Exodus”
Locke: If it’s not real, then what are you doing here, Jack? Why did you come back? Why do you find it so hard to believe?
Jack: Why do you find it so easy?
Locke: It’s never been easy! –Â “Orientation”
Sawyer: Don’t worry.
Juliet: We can get coffee some time.
Sawyer: I gotta get you out of here.
Juliet: We can go Dutch. – “The End”
“If we can’t live together, we’re going to die alone.” — Jack, “White Rabbit”
“We’re the good guys, Michael.” — Ben, “Live Together, Die Alone”
Jacob: I take it you’re here ’cause of the ship.
Man in Black: I am. How did they find the Island?
Jacob:Â You’ll have to ask ‘em when they get here.
Man in Black: I don’t have to ask. You brought them here. Still trying to prove me wrong, aren’t you?
Jacob:Â You are wrong.
Man in Black: Am I? They come. They fight. They destroy. They corrupt. It always ends the same.
Jacob:Â It only ends once. Anything that happens before that is just progress. – “The Incident”
Jack: Where are we?
Christian: This is a place you all made together so you could find one another…Nobody does it all alone. You needed them and they needed you.
Jack: For what?
Christian: To remember and to let go. – “The End”
“Don’t tell me what I can’t do!” — Locke
