NBC’s Oklahoma Tornado benefit was a great event, but perhaps the most poignant moment was watching Miranda Lambert tear up during her performance of “The House that Built Me.”
Lambert was joined by Reba McEntire, Ryan Tedder, Darius Rucker, Usher, Rascal Flatts and Luke Bryan, along with her husband Blake Shelton, whom she is NOT splitting from, despite tabloid rumors. The couple sang “Over You,” during the evening, but it was “The House that Built Me,” which drew tears from Lambert.
Lambert had to shy away from the microphone in order to regain her composure. At the end, she mouthed “Sorry” to the crowd, adding, “I love you Oklahoma.” It’s hard to imagine anyone could fault her for the display of emotion.
If you missed the benefit and want to still give, you can. Organizers created a “Healing In the Heartland” Facebook page for donations. You can also text REBUILD to 52000 to make a one-time $10 donation, or call 1-800-890-4999 to make a pledge.
Perhaps you want to follow the example of Carrie Underwood who actually gave $1M to the Red Cross in the wake of the tornado. She had this to say about her motivation:
“I have watched the devastation in my home state of Oklahoma over the past several days with great sadness. With the help of my fans who attended my concerts over the past year, we can offer the Red Cross a little extra help in comforting those affected by the recent tornados.”
