The Top Uses of The Village People’s “YMCA” in Movies or TV

When it comes The Village People YMCA is undoubtedly their greatest hit and is the one reason why so many people even know who they are. They’ve shown up in countless movies and TV shows and there have been a few other songs that people have known them to sing but this is by the most popular and well known. It’s even been featured in some clips that you wouldn’t expect, either as a parody or because it was deemed to be important enough to include in the mix.

If not for this song they’d still have Macho Man and In The Navy, but really those three are what made them great.

5. The Office

Michael is kind of hopeless but he really tries. Sometimes he tries a little too hard. The Office is one of those shows you either love or hate, as its humor is sometimes a little dry and hard to get. But it did become one of the most talked about shows for a while and managed to be a popular sitcom that people flocked around every time it was on. I still remember people asking me if I’d seen the latest episode.

4. Despicable Me 2

In the first film the supervillian Gru was struggling to find his purpose and his drive and failing horribly thanks to another supervillain that he eventually defeats. However, the twist is that he defeats the villain mostly because the three girls he adopted under false pretenses at first soon enough claim his heart and he finds purpose in his life yet again. It’s funny how kids can get you to change your life without even trying.

3. Mr. 3000

Stan Ross thought he was on his way to the Hall of Fame, but when it’s discovered that he’s three hits shy of a record he has to pick up his bat and head back to ballpark for another stab at what could make him into a legend. Along the way however he figures out that the game has changed since his day and that his lone wolf, showboating techniques won’t get him anywhere this time.

2. Wayne’s World 2

Leave it to Wayne and his friends to come up with a plan to spy on the guy that’s dishing on his woman only to get chased into a gay bar where they’re mistaken for dancers dressed as The Village People. Typical right? Well, only for a movie like this I suppose since I can honestly say I’ve never seen that happen in a lot of movies. But the effect is pretty funny when you think about it since they get into the song with relative ease.

1. Blast from the Past

Imagine living your entire life underground due to the fact that your father thinks that the world above ended in a nuclear holocaust. Then try to imagine acclimating to a world you know next to nothing about and discovering that everything you thought you knew was wrong. That would be something beyond anyone’s capability to comprehend in one sitting.

Admit it, you felt the need to sing the chorus of YMCA at least once during this article.
