One thing I already admire AMC’s handling of The Walking Dead for is the way they have kept creator Robert Kirkman front and center. The Kirkman created series of comics is the basis for The Walking Dead, and the production isn’t being shy about flying their comic-geek flag. Too often creators are left behind when their creations are sucked up by the great television and film machine — not the case here at all. Kirkman often appears as a humble spokesman for his creation
What I love about this opening title sequence for The Walking Dead is that it pays homage to The Walking Dead’s comic roots, using the imagery of the comic. Like the ever present Kirkman, the use of the comics imagery – which is clearly a huge influence on the set – mixed with tasty rock vibes and equally tasty animation is pure genius, again treating Kirkman’s impetus with total respect. But check this out: this is NOT the opening title sequence for The Walking Dead.
I first found out about this fan creation when it made its way around the Twitter grapevine yesterday. Normally I’d ignore fan created vids, but this one is just too good to be ignored. No doubt with all the legal wrangling needed to legitimize it, this sequence will probably never be used on the show — but it should be. It’s amazing how well director Daniel M. Kanemoto (http://www.exmortisfilms.com/) captures the groove of the source material in every way possible . Great stuff indeed.
