The Originals Season 3 Episode 8 Review: “The Other Girl in New Orleans”

The Originals

Aside from serving as a game-changing episode for a fan-favorite couple, The Originals raised a few more questions.  For example, is there room for yet another Mikaelson sibling to come back into the picture?  More on that later!

Klaus and Cami have been dancing around the inevitable for three seasons now.   They respect and have a deep understanding for each other.  Klaus makes his feelings obvious through his actions, which Cami recognizes but has so far chosen to ignore.  Now that her somewhat darker side was exposed through her very interesting conversation with a certifiably insane Aurora, I think the attraction Klaus feels for her has only grown.  The look on his face when he hugs her after she’s safe speaks volumes.  His answer that he’ll do “whatever [she] wants” when she tells him not to kill anyone for her was as close to “I love you” Klaus will probably ever get.  Literally, that exchange could and should be their wedding vows.  How perfect for this sweet couple that’s not even an official couple at all.  As Aurora pointed out, they’ve never even so much as kissed, and there’s such serious feelings between the two.  I’m not usually so on board with the fandom shipping, but I’m all about Klamille right now!

Aurora acted out of childish jealousy by kidnapping Cami and setting her up to be fed on by freshly turned vampires.  She deserves everything she has coming to her now that Klaus and Elijah have all the information they need to rescue Rebekah from the bottom of the ocean.  Which by the way, these OG vampires need to utilize that power of a simple touch to read minds way more often.  All it really takes is some vervain chains and a werewolf bite to get an enemy under enough control to get the information they need.  Aurora, Tristan, and especially Lucien have no leverage over their sires anymore, and I could not be happier to be one step closer to being done with them.  Aurora and Tristan at least have to be killed.  They’re immature enough to be annoying, whereas Lucien is harmless.  A little bit of a brownnoser with Klaus, but mainly he doesn’t pose much of a threat yet.

Marcel continues to prove to The Strix that he’s on their side by launching the attack on Elijah to free Tristan.  Honestly, he can’t keep up this charade of playing both sides for much longer.  Eventually, The Strix will catch on that he’s taking it easy on the Mikaelsons, and they won’t hesitate to rip his heart out on the spot.  They’re already suspicious of his involvement in Davina’s impeachment from her post as witch regent.  I hate to say it, but if there’s nothing better for Marcel to be doing around town, I won’t be all that surprised if and when his turn as a double agent catches up with him.

Of course, there’s trouble in newlywed paradise just across the street from the compound.  Jackson left Hayley when she was so committed to helping the Mikaelsons.  Now he may or may not have sent his Grandma Mary over to help smooth the situation over with Hayley.  I sincerely hope he’s embarrassed to hear of this visit because she doesn’t accomplish anything.  Hayley has nothing to be ashamed of.  She’s an honorary Mikaelson for life through her connection with Hope, and that means being there for your family.  I’m not even worried because Hayley knows what she’s doing.  She tried the domestic life with Jack and maybe that wasn’t enough.  I’m not saying she was bored, but she was obviously missing something.  Elijah will always be there for her, and she knows that.

Lastly, Freya seems to be annoyed with her place in the family.  She’s delegated to babysitter while Elijah and Hayley torture Tristan.  I sort of understand where she’s coming from.  She has more than enough power up her sleeves to pitch in when necessary, yet she’s still considered second tier to everyone else.  The fact that she actually listened to Tristan about Finn isn’t a good sign.  She entrapped Finn’s soul in her pendant, and now she’s bringing him back to have a little chat.  If he’s truly back for good now, someone better get working on bringing Kol back next!
