Is Outlander giving us a love triangle in Season 2? While it seemed for most of the show’s first season that nothing could come between Claire and Jamie, that may not be the case in the drama’s sophomore season, as French actress Margaux Chatelier has been cast to play the “beautiful and charming” Annalise de Marillac, a former love of Jamie’s. TVLine was the first to report the casting news.
In addition to Chatelier’s casting, Outlander has recruited Marc Duret, another French actor for a major Season 2 role. Per TVLine, Duret, who is most well-known for his roles in Luc Besson films The Big Blueand La Femme Nikita and the television drama Borgia, will play Monsieur Joseph Duverney, “the well-dressed, middle-aged Minister of Finance to Louis XV. Duverney and Jamie become competitors at chess.”
There have been quite a few casting announcements for Outlander Season 2 over the past couple weeks. Also joining the Starz drama in its second season are Borgia‘s Stanley Weber (as Le Comte St. Germain), Hatfields & McCoys‘ Robert Cavanah (as Jamie’s Jacobite cousin, Jared Fraser), Alien: Resurrection‘s Dominique Piñon (as Master Raymond), and Homefront‘s Rosie Day (as Mary Hawkins).
As Outlander fans know, the series’ first season finale ended with Claire and Jamie boarding a ship for France after Jamie had been rescued from the clutches of the evil Black Jack Randall (Tobias Menzies). However, Randall’s torture and rape of Jamie will not be forgotten, as his emotional scars will be something he continues to deal with in Outlander Season 2, while he and Claire also await her giving birth to their child. Could the familiar arms of Annalise be what Jamie seeks comfort in? We’ll have to wait and see.
