Paul Schneider Leaving Parks & Recreation; Notes on Rob Lowe and Adam Scott

Honorary residents of Pawnee, Indiana, raise a glass to the impending departure of the town’s city planner, Mark Brandanawicz. The Los Angeles Times, in an interview with Parks and Recreation co-creator Mike Schur, has confirmed that Mark’s portrayer, Paul Schneider, will be leaving the series at the end of this season. Schur does state that they have no intention of having Mark “killed in some weird accident,” so there is a possibility of a return. It seems that since his appearance in the indie hit Bright Star, Schneider’s movie career is on the upswing, and that the movies being offered cannot accomodate the Parks and Rec schedule. Of course, this will leave Ann Perkins, played by Rashida Jones, boyfriend-less.

Could she fall for one of the two gentlemen known to be arriving in Pawnee this season? As we reported, Rob Lowe will be joining the show later this season. According to Schur, he and Adam Scott (Party Down, Tell Me You Love Me) will play a pair of government specialists sent to Pawnee to help the town through some tough times. Rumor has it, and Schur does not deny, that Scott’s character will actually be a love interest for Amy Poehler’s Leslie Knope. Does this leave the suave, yet older, Lowe for Ann? We’ll have to wait and see.

Undeniably, it will be sad to see Schneider leave the show, but to be honest, Mark’s relationship with Ann has been kind of boring. Maybe this will all be for the best, and since Mark isn’t going to be mauled to death by an angry opossum (see last week’s episode), he will hopefully return at some point.
