When Peter Dinklage Was the Frontman of a 90s Punk Band

I’ve got to admit that I wouldn’t have believed had I not seen it. Tyrion Lannister before the Game of Thrones was even begun, larger than life and angrier than Grumpy from Snow White. No, that’s not a joke, he really admits to being angry during this time in his life and it might be what served as inspiration for his role in the punk/funk/rap band that he fronted for called Whizzy. There isn’t any video footage of the band but the pictures below paint a pretty solid portrait of what the band was about and how prominent Dinklage’s role was in the group.

We all start out somewhere after all and to be honest Dinklage seems like he might have needed an outlet in his earlier years if he was such an angry person. I wonder though if it was a Napoleon complex or something else entirely. Bad as it sounds a lot of shorter guys do go through this kind of complex at one point or another.

He had such a different look that you can’t help but wonder what set him onto acting after this. Maybe he was just loving the spotlight after a while.

The different styles of dress in the band kind of alludes to the fact that it wasn’t bogged down by just one type of music. It was definitely something a little different with each song it performed.

It would have been worth it to attend a concert by Whizzy just to see what they were like. And then years later you could be watching GoT and exclaim “That’s the front man for Whizzy!” Of course no one would know what you were talking about but hey, it’d be something anyway.

It looks like they might have been pretty interactive during their concerts. That, or Dinklage just loved getting into people’s faces now and again. Either explanation seems likely since even now he seems able to face up to other people when he’s on screen.

I’m kind of wondering just what kind of sound Whizzy produced when they were performing a set. The instruments, the look, and the name itself kind of lend an idea that they were a hot mess on some nights and absolute gold on others.

Considering that this was back in the 90’s it seems like the overall look of the band is actually pretty normal. You have to remember that the 1990’s music scene was constantly changing and as a result so was the look of each band that you grew to love and then forget before the decade was out.

Despite eventually leaving the band Dinklage still has a big personality and shows it more often than not during Game of Thrones. Since the first season he’s been pretty much up in everyone’s faces despite his shorter stature. His character has gone through a lot of development but the point is that he’s been around to do so. There have been many times in his life it seems that Dinklage, like Tyrion Lannister, has had to undergo a serious amount of character development to get to the next stage in life.

That’s why it seems like moving on from Whizzy was just another move that he felt necessary to make at some point.
