E! Picks Up Show With Chelsea Panelists

In news that made me a little too excited, E! is picking up a pop culture-centric show featuring Chelsea Lately regulars Heather McDonald and Ross Mathews. According to deadline.com, the show is said to be eyed for the post Chelsea timeslot and will revolve around ‘two super-fans passionately discussing their views on the ridiculousness of pop culture’.

I personally think it’s a fantastic move on all accounts. Mathews and McDonald are two of the most consistently funny panelists on the late night talk show and their chemistry is rather magnetic when they appear on the same night. To pair the two of them up and let them just riff on pop culture has the potential to be part snarky gossip, part good natured ribbing, a welcome break from the channel’s unwatchable Fashion Police and hit-or-miss The Soup. Chelsea sometimes veers into inside jokes as opposed to discussing the insanity of pop culture, so two of the more focused panelists should be able to keep things going pretty smoothly.

It’s unclear when and where the channel will air the series, as there are several shows in the pipeline to potentially follow up the wildly successful talk show. While each sounds like an interesting enough idea (a behind the scenes look at Chelsea, a Whitney Cummings talk show), I’m leaning toward supporting the Ross and Heather project, only because the channel needs material that’s a less little disgusting/vicious. But pretty much anything beats Keeping Up with the Kardashians reruns and the umpteeth showing of Bridalplasty, no?

Would you watch a show with The Intern and Longboobs? Are you still watching Chelsea Lately? Are there any other Chelsea regulars who you’d like to see get a spinoff?
