TV Ratings Monday: ‘The Sing-Off’ Boosts NBC

Why does NBC need Chuck and The Event if it could do so much better with non-scripted shows like The Sing-Off? That’s a good question after the preliminary ratings for Monday, December 6, 2010 came out: The two-hour season premiere of The Sing-Off attracted 8.54 million viewers and a 2.8 rating/7 share among adults 18-49.

This was an increase of 2.54 million viewers and 40 percent in adults 18-49 over Chuck and The Event on November 29, 2010. Compared to its series premiere on December 14, 2009, The Sing-Off built by 1.65 million viewers and 22 percent in the demo.

Capping off the evening for NBC was an all-new episode of Chase (5.06 million viewers; A18-49: 1.5/4), which season order has been reduced from 22 to 18 episodes recently.

But CBS scored Monday victory in total viewers and adults 18-49 with original installments of How I Met Your Mother (9.40 million viewers; A18-49: 3.6/10) and Rules of Engagement (8.83 million viewers; A18-49: 3.1/8), which both set season highs in total viewers, followed by Two and a Half Men (13.32 million viewers; A18-49: 4.1/10), Mike & Molly (11.08 million viewers; A18-49: 3.4/8) and Hawaii Five-0 (10.30 million viewers; A18-49: 2.7/7). While Two and a Half Men reached season lows in total viewers and adults 18-49, Hawaii Five-0 and Mike & Molly touched bottom in adults 18-49.

Over at ABC, Skating with the Stars opened the evening at a lackluster 4.80 million viewers and a 1.0/3 in the demo. Needless to say, this non-scripted show won’t be back next season. Skating with the Stars led into a repeat of Modern Family (4.45 million viewers; A18-49: 1.4/4) followed by an all-new episode of Castle (8.61 million viewers; A18-49: 2.2/6), which hit a new season low in total viewers and adults 18-49.

FOX aired The 1st Annual American Country Awards (5.97 million viewers; A18-49: 1.5/4) and came in fourth in total viewers and adults 18-49. The CW closed the evening with original installments of 90210 (2.14 million viewers; A18-49: 1.0/3) and Gossip Girl (2.08 million viewers; A18-49: 1.1/3).
