Robbie Amell Cast As Firestorm on ‘The Flash’

Robbie Amell, cousin to Stephen Amell, who is currently cast as Green Arrow in the CW drama ‘Arrow’, has been cast in the CW’s upcoming drama, ‘The Flash’. His last series, also on the CW, was ‘The Tomorrow People’, and while it seemed entertaining, the network decided that it didn’t want to invest in a second season of the show. Robbie Amell has stated that “Being brought into the DC Universe is a dream, I can’t wait to get started!” At the very least, it should mean job security for him at a network that can get by with ratings that any of the major four networks would cringe at. In any case, I love ‘Arrow’ and I am increasingly excited for ‘The Flash’, especially as the cast so many heroes that it looks like the two shows combined will be more like the Justice League rather than shows about Green Arrow and the Flash. Characters like the Atom and Firestorm appearing in the shows, as well as crossovers between the main characters, give me hope that the CW will not only become a more successful network but will create the only thing it failed to do with Smallville: a successful, multi-show franchise. I think that it would be a shame if Disney beat the CW to the punch with entries like ‘Agents of Shield’ when the CW is pulling no punches, either on casting or on characters they are introducing.

Robbie Amell himself will be a great addition to the CW’s team. I was very impressed with his ability in ‘The Tomorrow People’ (if not with the performances of the other people in the show) and am excited to see him making a return. He will be reuniting with an executive producer from the show for his debut, Greg Berlanti, but with a team already in place to manage the show, I am not worried about that. This seems like a solid decision, whether or not it is motivated by Stephen Amell trying to get his cousin another job.
