Actor Shia LaBeouf and his artist pals Ronkko & Turner have occupied an elevator in Oxford for 24 hours. Why does that first sentence not even surprise me? The trio are set to give a talk at Oxford Union at 8pm on Friday. For 24 hours either side of their talk, the performers say they will be occupying the elevator in Gloucester Green, ending the performance at 9am on Saturday. The art project is currently being live-streamed on YouTube.
In a statement, the art collective said: “Visitors will be able to join LaBeouf, Rönkkö & Turner inside the elevator during this time, and are invited to address the artists, the debating chamber, and the internet, so that their collective voices may form an extended, expansive and egalitarian Oxford Union address.”
If you’re interested in something as pointless as this you can watch the video above and just sit there watching these guys. I mean when I thought that LaBeouf was off the rails like 3 years ago I really didn’t know what I was talking about. For all intents and purposes this guy should 100% be in a mental facility but because of his celebrity status he gets to hang out in elevators for 24 hours calling it art? Personally I think it’s kind of sad. Don’t forget this is a guy who Stephen Spielberg loved at one point. How can you go from being one of the most respected actors by one of the most respected directors to now making a career out of embarrassing yourself?
But be sure to #Elevate!
