Breaking News: Supernatural’s Kim Manners Passes Away

n705883508_1378474_4469Very sad news to report today from the Supernatural family, Kim Manners, Executive Producer and Director, passed away last night from lung cancer. Jim Beaver, Supernatural‘s “Bobby”, shared this tragic news just a little over an hour ago via his Facebook. Jim has always been very generous with his fans; sharing his time, his writing, stories from his life, especially stories of his precious daughter, Maddie, and now the loss of “one of the best friends and best directors he has ever known”. We here at TVOvermind want to extend our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Kim Manners.

Besides Supernatural, he is best known for his work on The X-Files, where he directed more episodes than any other director. We are working on putting together a list of all the episodes of Supernatural that Kim Manners directed, but for now, we just wanted to extend our most heartfelt condolences to all of the lives that he touched, and those who will miss him so much.

I, personally, feel we have lost one of the most prolific and gifted directors of our time. I had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Manners in an airport one time when I was barely more than a teenager; and the time he spent with me, and the kindness he showed this girl who was excited and terrified all at the same time to be in his presence, will never be forgotten.

Update: Supernatural series creator, Eric Kripke, has released the following statement regarding the passing of Kim Manners:

Everyone at Supernatural is walking around in a daze, shocked and absolutely devastated. Kim was a brilliant director; more than that, he was a mentor and friend. He was one of the patriarchs of the family, and we miss him desperately. He gave so much to Supernatural, and everything we do on the show, now and forever, is in memory of him.
