Ranking Every Season Finale from the Show “Suits”

It’s very rare to come across a lighthearted legal show that’s not even remotely bordering the line of cheesy. Even previous greats such as Ally McBeal and Night Court had moments when they were just a little too impractical to watch. There’s something about Suits that’s smarter and just different altogether. Since its premiere in 2011, Suits has been outsmarting us all, and with season 8 coming this year, we can’t help but think back to all the best moments of the show. With the recent changes of important cast members leaving the show, we look back at all the season finales of the Suits and rank them from worst to best.

7. Suits Season 7 Finale — Good-Bye

We’re not ashamed to put this as the worst finale of Suits ever given the fact that this was the last episode that Mike (Patrick J. Adams) and Rachel (Meghan Markle) will be on the show. That’s enough to keep us distracted the entire time. It also didn’t’ help that we had two separate lawsuits to deal with. We thought that the entire focus should’ve been on Mike and Rachel, but that’s just us. We’re also not entirely sure if we liked the way the spinoff was introduced in this finale.

6. Suits Season 3 Finale — No Way Out

Only three season into the fake law degree premise, and they’ve already given up on the idea. It couldn’t have been that easy, but we felt that this finale was such a cop out from the show. It was interesting to see Harvey and Louis play nice together to save the day, but at the very end, we wanted to see Mike still at Pearson-Specter and never banking with Jonathan Sidwell. Also, we would’ve liked a little bit more responsibilities for Rachel and Donna at that point, which we though we were getting with the finale. Alas, it didn’t come.

5. Suits Season 4 Finale — Not Just a Pretty Face

The season 4 finale alone was much better than all of season 3 combined. It was almost a clean slate for the show, with storylines getting aligned and characters becoming the focal point of the show once again. We lost a little bit of that in season 3, but the season 4 finale corrected the misaligned path of Suits. As much as Donna and Harvey still pained us, their dynamic and rising tension was almost palpable in this episode. It was good. We’re glad Suits was not overly romantic even at this point except for the fact that Mike finally popped the question in this finale.

4. Suits Season 6 Finale — Character and Fitness

If there was one thing to love about this finale, it’s the fact that Mike Ross finally became a legitimate lawyer. We’re glad it took this long for the storyline to resolve this way. The original premise of the show was so good, and part of the charm was in the illegal aspects of Mike’s law practice. So in this finale, Mike finally passed the bar. The more we thought of it, the more bittersweet it felt. What else is there to look forward to now that he’s legit? We weren’t sure then, but the feels of this season finale was good enough to land it on this spot.

3. Suits Season 2 Finale — War

Part of what made this season finale good was the fact that it was such a separation from the rest of the season. Everything in season 2 was so fast-paced; and the slow movement of the finale kind of gave us a different perspective on the characters. This was the first time that we saw Harvey in a less than invincible light. It was great characterization to say the least. Although things didn’t quite work out for Rachel and Harvard, we felt that it was a good development for their relationship. Her rejection almost made them equals because although Mike was a genius, he was still illegal, and while Rachel wasn’t quite the next Mike Ross, she at least had her bright future. In the finale, their stories were suspended in equality just for a moment.

2. Suits Season 5 Finale — 25th Hour

With wedding plans planned and cancelled, it’s safe to say that this was probably one of the most emotionally charged episodes in all of Suits history. Apart from that, there was a moment when we saw Harvey and Mike at the exact place where we often should’ve found them–quite reflective on the things they’d done in the past and the things they continue to do. It was a moment that brought us back to the beginning in subtle yet glorious ways. While we could forget the rest of the episode when everyone tried to figure out how to keep Mike from prison, we can’t ever forget that one moment when we truly saw what their friendship had grown into.

1. Suits Season 1 Finale — Dog Fight

The rectifying matter was a big deal in this episode, as Harvey tried to free Danner–the man he mistakenly imprisoned so long ago. This was also such a pivotal point in the show because it gave certain directions as to where the show was headed when it came to relationships: Harvey and Donna, Mike and Rachel, Harvey and Mike, Jessica and Harvey, Jessica and Mike, etcetera, etcetera. However, the biggest moment happened when Mike’s secret was revealed to his boss. That was some solid drama.
