Cinemax is trying to produce yet another original hit, following in the footsteps of Banshee, with The Knick. It’s a drama set in New York City in 1900 which stars the recently dormant Clive Owen as a surgeon at the Knickerbocker Hospital, hence the name. The show premieres in two days on August 8th, and Cinemax is doing their best to ensure we the press get a good first look at it.
Part of the “welcome” package for the show was a rather elaborate press kit, that’s made to look like the medicine bag of a surgeon working around that time. We took the time to document the entire unboxing of the kit, and you can check out all the photos in the gallery below.
Inside, there are pills and supplies, and a rather cool poster showing the “life, judgment, and death” areas of the hopstial. It’s a really well put together kit, and feels very authentic. I’m sad the pills seemed to be relatively innocuous, but hey, you can’t have everything.
Check out the gallery of pictures below, and here’s a more official synopsis of The Knick, which you can catch in just two days time on Cinemax:
“In New York City in 1900, the Knickerbocker Hospital operates with innovative surgeons, nurses and staff who have medicinal limitations to prevent staggeringly high mortality rates. Dr. John Thackery, the newly appointed leader of the surgery staff, battles his cocaine and opium addictions with his ambition for medical discovery and reputation among his peers. Harvard graduate Dr. Algernon Edwards must fight for respect within the all-white-populated hospital, as well as the racially charged city. While literally struggling to keep the lights on, the hospital attempts to attract a wealthy clientele, without sacrificing quality care.”
