Vinnie Jones Fits Into a ‘Cape’

In news that will be sure to raise a few eyebrows in TV land, Brit hardman, former soccer player, and expert growler Vinnie Jones has had his status upped to regular on NBC’s new fall series The Cape. This marks the first regular TV role for the “Lock, Stock” and “X-Men: The Last Stand” star. The casting certainly makes a pretty intriguing statement about the fledgling series –Jones isn’t exactly known for his amazing acting ability — though right now I’m unsure what that statement is. “We’re going to be goofy fun, so come along for the ride”? “We’re going to be big, interesting, and make one hell of a splash”? “We were kinda scared when he auditioned so we couldn’t say no”?

Needless to say Jones has a large and intimidating screen presence, which could be a great boost for the series’ chances of sticking around longer than a single season. If the show can make best use of Jones’ talents, he could be a great asset. It could also be a bewildering and spectacular failure. I’m betting that the creative guys behind The Cape know what they’re doing. Either way, it should be a riot to watch Jones as his character Scales, described by The Hollywood Reporter as —

…a frightening man with a freakish skin condition that gives him the appearance of green and gold scales.

The Cape, about an innocent cop framed for a murder who takes on the guise of his son’s favourite superhero so he can fight injustice and find the person that ruined his life, comes to NBC this fall.
