Five Things You Didn’t Know About Kacey Musgraves

Kacey Musgraves is an American singer and songwriter who usually performs in the country music genre. She was born in Golden, Texas, on August 21, 1988. She had already self-released three albums when she appeared on the fifth season of the televised singing competition, ‘Nashville Star’ in 2007. She then released two critically acclaimed albums. The first, ‘Same Trailer Different Park’, was released in 2013, followed by ‘Pageant Material’ in 2015. Here are five more things you probably do not know about Kacey Musgraves.

1. She Was Musically Talented as a Child

Kacey Musgraves began to show musical talent at a very early stage in her childhood. By the age of eight, she was already writing her own songs, including one called ‘Notice Me’ that she wrote for her elementary school graduation. The first instrument that she learned to play was the mandolin and then she began guitar lessons at the age of 12. Her tutor was John DeFoore and he described teaching her as one of the most amazing things that had ever happened to him. She began making demos to earn money at the age of 18.

2. She is Married to Ruston Kelly

Kacey Musgraves does not talk much about her personal life. However, she is married to Ruston Kelly, who is a country artist. They dated for some time before becoming engaged on Christmas Eve, 2016. The couple was then married in Tennessee on October 14, 2017.

3. Alison Krauss is Her Role Model

Kacey Musgraves has named many people as being influential in her music. However, she has specifically identified Alison Krauss as being a major role model and has suggested that she is in awe of the Grammy Award-winning musician. Another of her favorite artists is John Prine because she admires his songwriting talent. Other artists she has mentioned as being influential to her work include Julie Miller, Ray Price, Glen Campbell, Marty Robbins, Roger Miller, Charley Pride, Jim Croce, and Loretta Lynn.

4. She is Known for Her Controversial Lyrics

Each artist in the music industry has something that sets them apart from others and in the case of Kasey Musgraves, this is her controversial lyrics. Although the country music genre is generally quite conservative, Musgraves has broken the mold and included lyrics of a controversial nature in many of her tracks. Some of the topics she has covered include safe sexual intercourse, religious sentiments, the recreational use of marijuana, and acceptance of homosexuality. With regards to her lyrics, Musgraves has said that she does not see them as controversial and that they are merely an expression of what people are going through in daily life.

5. She Has Released a Christmas Album

In 2016, Kacey Musgraves released a Christmas album called ‘A Very Kacey Christmas’. She released this album through Mercury Nashville and this was her third major release album. The album featured four original tracks and eight traditional Christmas songs. Several guest artists featured on the album, including The Quebe Sisters, Leon Bridges, and Willie Nelson. In the same year, she also completed a tour that was also called ‘A Very Kasey Christmas’.
